In today’s time, most of the studies happens outside the classroom. That combined with the inability or rather a lax attitude of teachers towards actually imparting knowledge, completely negates the reason why classrooms were first created.
Most of the learning today happens through the internet. Even the stuff that’s taught in class isn’t learned or understood there, but instead at a later point in time from our friends, colleagues or seniors. That covers most of the topics that are taught in class. Apart from all this theoretical knowledge, what we need even more in life is practical knowledge, which is simply not addressed at all in classrooms.
What little practical knowledge we do possess is from internships and other external factors rather than classrooms.
However, professors aren’t the only ones at fault here. Even the students only go to class to complete the dreaded attendance barrier. As such removing this barrier would actually make students more motivated to attend classes. It is true that many students would just not attend any class and would fail.
But every year there is a huge multitude of students who instead of their chosen field, choose to do something else, like becoming a singer, model, YouTuber, etc. As such removing this barrier would allow them to focus on their dream which they would have ultimately chosen.
Especially with the multitude of unorthodox jobs out there, this would also clear the unnecessary clutter most colleges have of students suffering rather than pursuing their dreams. Therefore it is my firm belief that attendance bar should be removed from college.
